Khammam: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is forming its district committees and allied units. This is a herculean task as the party was being run without a proper organisational structure so far.
As per the present plan, the party’s district committees will have 25 members. The feeder units will have 15-member panels.
In organisational matters, the TRS was following ad-hoc methods for the last two decades. The party is currently giving organisational heft to its farmer, women, BC, minority, SC, ST, student and youth wings, alongside putting in place the district and other units for the main political entity. So far, unlike other parties, the TRS did not give weight to the party’s feeder organisations and relied on ministers and MLAs in respective areas to implement the party programmes.
A TRS leader said, “The word of each MLA should be given weight and what a minister says is not enough. We started an exercise with the advice of the minister and are discussing matters with the MLAs and other local leaders"
The MLAs will have a say in constituting booth, village and mandal committees in his or her constituency. It is a different story when it comes to formation of district committees.
Many activists are seeking district TRS posts in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem. But, the aspirants are unclear about the criteria in the selection for these posts.
For example, Budan Baig acted as TRS Khammam district president for a long time. There was no district committee during his tenure and he was appointed to the post on the advice of former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. In Khammam assembly segment, there are some area committees for youths, women, BCs and minorities. Such a set-up does not exist in other assembly segments.
R.J.C. Krishna is working as party office in-charge in Khammam. He was among the aspirants for party district chief post. Kamartapu Murali and Nalamala Venkateswara Rao are also interested in this post.
SUDA (Stambadri Urban Development Authority) chairman Vijaykumar said, “Forming party committees is good and committed leaders and workers will get party posts.” The party high command will decide on the names for posts after receiving the lists from the districts.
