Speaker disqualification notice not binding on us, say TTV supporters

The MLAs said the result for their explanation will be known in two days.

Chennai: AIADMK (Amma) MLAs supporting party’s deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Wednesday asserted that the disqualification notices to them sent by Speaker P. Dhanapal was not binding on them since they had not done anything wrong. They were speaking to the media at the Secretariat after submitting their explanations for the notices sent by the Speaker.

The Speaker had responded to the demand of the party’s Assembly whip that the 19 AIADMK legislators who met Governor and withdrew support to CM Palaniswami should be disqualified from the House. However, they echoed the views of the opposition that ruling party MLAs meeting the Governor was not an intra-party affair and said about 40 MLAs were with them.

The members, led by MLAs P. Vetrivel and Thanga Thamizhselvan who met the media said meeting the Governor was not wrong and it was normal in a democratic country.

The MLAs said the result for their explanation will be known in two days. The MLAs also said they would meet President Ram Nath Kovind and put forth their views. Recalling that former O. Panneerselvam and the MLAs supporting him voted against the Palaniswami government in the confidence vote, Vetrivel asked why notice was not sent to them.
