Mysuru: Reacting to BJP leader Govind Karjol’s statement on why Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi could not marry a Dalit, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the number of inter caste marriages which have happened in the Nehru family have not happened in any other family.

The CM was speaking to mediapersons near his residence at Sharadadevinagar here on Wednesday morning. When asked about Govind Karjol's statement, that they were ready to give a Dalit bride provided Rahul Gandhi was ready to marry her, he said, "Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi married those from different religions. “The BJP leaders have no moral right to question this, we need not learn lessons from BJP leaders, "he said.

Meanwhile at a programme in Udbur in Chamundeswari constituency, PWD minister Dr H.C. Mahadevappa said, "Marriage is a private matter and is a social process. It should not brought into politics. In today's world, youth marry the person whom they trust irrespective of caste and religion."
