CLP Leader, Other Congress Leaders to Meet Governor on Tuesday

HYDERABAD: Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday said that party leaders would meet Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and submit a representation highlighting the government’s failure to prevent floods during last week’s spell of heavy rain, and to release relief material to the victims.

Speaking to mediapersons on Monday at the CLP office, Bhatti alleged that the Chief Minister had given top priority to bringing delegates from different places to Pragathi Bhavan by spending money on special flights, but had ignored the request of Congress MLAs Dr Seethakka, Podem Veeraiah and D. Sridhar Bahu to send rescue teams when their constituencies were being ravaged by floods.

"The BRS government has completely failed to provide basic assistance in flood-affected areas. We will meet Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday and submit a representation on government failures," the CLP leader said.

Bhatti alleged that the Chief Minister cheated Bhadradri Lord Rama by making false statements regarding providing Rs 1,000 crore to construct a retaining wall along the Godavari to prevent floods in the temple town. He said that the Chief Minister had visited Bhadrachalam in 2016 and promised to sanction Rs 100 crore for development works. Last year, he raised the figure to Rs 1,000 crore when he visited Bhadrachalam but he has not fulfilled his promise, Bhatti said.

The CLP leader called upon the people to understand the Chief Minister's false statements and teach the BRS a lesson in the ensuing election by supporting the Congress. He said Rao had himself redesigned irrigation projects, instead of relying on experts and engineers, on which the government had spent thousands of crores. More than 60 tanks and lakes had breached, causing floods in different places due to the negligence of the government.
