Telangana to seek more grants from finance panel

The government will submit the memorandum for 2020-25 session to the 15th Finance Commission seeking more grants for these schemes.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government will tap performance-based grants from the 15th Finance Commission. Chief secretary Dr S.K. Joshi asked officials to prepare a report within a week on performance indicators in the areas of roads, Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Haritha Haram, irrigation projects, and others. The government will submit the memorandum for 2020-25 session to the 15th Finance Commission seeking more grants for these schemes.

The TS government is focusing on farmer insurance scheme, Rythu Bandhu, loan waiver, subsidies, disaster management, tourism, GST net widening, industry all these sector-wise information should be highlighted for tapping performance-based grants.

N.K. Singh-led 15th Finance Commission may propose bringing back performance-based incentives for states. In this backdrop, the TS government is gearing up to submit its performance indicators and flagship programmes taken up by all the departments so that it can tap for more funds and grants. It may be recalled that the 13th Finance Commission recommended performance-based incentives but, the 14th Finance Commission has set it aside. “All the departments should submit accurate information to the finance department,” Dr Joshi said.
