D Jayakumar jibes at T T V Dhinakaran, calls M K Stalin opportunist

After the results were announced AMMK leader blamed the Election Commission for his party securing nil votes in over 300 polling booths in the State.

CHENNAI: State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar was at his sarcastic best in taking on rival AMMK leader T. T. V.Dhinakaran, saying Dhinakaran who depicted himself as a hero has now turned out to be a zero. The Minister also slammed DMK chief M. K. Stalin for attending the swearing in ceremony of Jagan mohan Reddy as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

Sarcastically commenting that Dhinakaran who unsuccessfully attempted to project himself as a ‘hero’ had only proved himself a ‘zero’ in Tamil Nadu politics, the Minister said after the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections, “Dhinakaran is researching how his party got zero votes.”

After the results were announced AMMK leader blamed the Election Commission for his party securing nil votes in over 300 polling booths in the State. “It is very strange that many of our supporters had voted for our party but, their votes have not been registered, there are instances where no votes were cast for our party. How is it possible? Election Commission has to clarify. We are collecting the details of booths and we will file a complaint at the Election Commission later,” Dhinakaran had then said.

Speaking to reporters at the airport here Mr. Jayakumar said the DMK leader who till the Lok Sabha election results were announced (on May 23) had displayed closeness with TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, had only shown his “opportunism.” “It is a known fact that DMK’s Stalin is an opportunist. First, he was on Chandrababu Naidu’s side. Now that the party lost in Andhra Pradesh, Stalin too has switched sides,” he said. To a question on whether his AIADMK would be accommodated in the Union Cabinet, the Minister said the party high command would decide if the BJP made any offers. “I cannot reply to speculative media reports... there is no authentic news of the AIADMK being given a berth in the Cabinet. The party high command will decide if the BJP makes an offer,” he replied.
