BSY on loan waiver: Betrayal of farmers

Mr Yeddyurappa, who was speaking to reporters here, said the BJP would soon decide on its next course of action.

Bengaluru: Far from happy with the state government's announcement of an agricultural loan waiver in phases on Wednesday, state BJP chief, B.S. Yeddyurappa called it a betrayal of farmers.

Alleging that the Chief Minister was trying to create confusion on farm loan waiver by saying it would be done in phases, the BJP leader threatened to launch a stir against the state government on the issue. "He (Mr Kumaraswamy) had promised to waive loans to the tune of Rs 53,000 crore. Is he now enacting a political drama?" he demanded, adding, "If you had to ask Rahul Gandhi, why did you announce a Rs 53,000 crore farm loan waiver ahead of the election? Why did you say in Delhi that you will resign if you can't waive the loan? You are trying to betray people. No farmer will believe you, I condemn your act of betrayal."

Mr Yeddyurappa , who was speaking to reporters here, said the BJP would soon decide on its next course of action. "We will not stop our agitation till the government announces a full farm loan waiver as promised,'' he asserted.

Reacting sharply to Mr Yeddyurappa's statement, Mr Kumaraswamy said that the man, who did not have the courtesy to attend the farmers' meeting he was officially invited to, had no moral right to sit in his house and tweet on the issue.

" Have I spelled out how many thousand crore I am waiving? He is resorting to petty politics and nothing else,'' he maintained. Although the government had invited Mr Yeddyurappa to the meeting, he stayed away and deputy leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Govind Karajol attended it instead.
