Chennai: Thiruparankundram by-poll will be conducted along with elections in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi Assembly constituencies, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni told reporters here on Monday.
The death of S.M. Seenivel, who was elected from Thiruparankundram, had been intimated EC. The poll schedule for the constituency is likely along with other two seats, he said.
Talking about post poll works, he said Election Commission had started collecting the poll expenditure accounts from candidates. All candidates should furnish their expenditure accounts by June 19.
During raids to prevent cash for votes, about Rs 105 crore had been seized. Of this, Rs 47 crore had been returned. The balance sum had been remitted to the state treasury.
The parties concerned after producing valid documents can claim the money back from the treasury, he said. In several city constituencies, the poll percentage had decreased. There will be a detailed examination in all low polling booths so that in future the poll percentage in urban pockets does not slide, he said.
