Visits of PM costs Karnataka dearly, accuses congress MP

BENGALURU: Referring to the inauguration of Kempegowda statue, the founder of Bengaluru city, in Devanahalli near Bengaluru city by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Lok Sabha member D.K. Suresh on Friday alleged altogether an amount of Rs 30 crore has been incurred on one programme of Prime Minister and wondered “What would be the expenses incurred on his 7 visits to the State so far (in recent months)?”

Suresh alleged that the visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made way for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to make quick money and giving out details on the Kempegowda statue inaugural function, he alleged a whooping Rs 12 crore has been spent on marquee alone and said that two marquee could have been purchased at the cost spent on marquee for Modi’s programme.

An amount of Rs 58 core has been spent on the statue of Kempegowda while the inaugural function costs Rs 30 crore, he said. Giving out details on the money spent for the statue inaugural function, an amount of Rs 1 crore has been spent on drinking water and another Rs 6.5 crore on transportation services to ferry people to the venue of the inaugural function and return back. Besides, an amount of Rs 50 lakh has been spent on kitchen and another Rs 77 lakh for hosting cultural programmes.

Suresh was surprised by the expenses on drinking water and questioned “How many litres did the people who attended the programme drink?”

Accusing the Prime Minister of seeking votes by allegedly ‘looting’ tax payers’ money of Karnataka, Suresh said “I am giving you the details on the amount spent on one visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi” and he has come to Karnataka on seven occasions.

Apart from the Prime Minister, Suresh said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has toured the State 9 times in recent months and said “Don’t know the expenses incurred on his visits to the State?”
