Kakatiya students threaten to intensify agitation over paper leak

Warangal: The Kakatiya University Students Joint Action Committee (KUSJAC) members on Thursday denounced the alleged unlawful detention of 11 students by the police during their Wednesday protest against the TSPSC leak and threatened to escalate their unrest if the police continued to bring fabricated charges against the agitating students.

On Wednesday, JAC members attempted to seize the administrative building and vice-chancellor T. Ramesh's office for denying permission to hold Vidyarthi Udyama Karulu Sangharshana Sabha on campus. The students embarked on agitation, demanding that numerous student issues be resolved, such as filling vacant posts across the state's universities and doing justice to the students who took the group exams.

The police attempted to prevent them by caning the belligerent students and detaining several of them. The students were released late Wednesday night after the leaders of the Opposition parties and various organisations arrived at the police station. However, the police summoned the 11 arrested students to the police station on Friday. Sources said the police may register non-bailable cases against them.

KU-SJAC chairman Tirupathi Yadav told Deccan Chronicle that when a representation was made to VC Prof.T.Ramesh seeking permission to hold a peaceful meeting on university campus, he initially granted permission but later denied in the last minute due to political pressure from the ruling BRS party and did not allow the students to protest against the TSPSC question paper leak issue. He further said that the officials had turned off the power and threatened the tent owners who had leased them to the students. Students became enraged over this and damaged flower pots and broke window panes. Yadav alleged that the university officials along with the police were jeopardising the future of the students by foisting false cases against them, and warned that they will give a call for universities bandh.
