HD Deve Gowda to campaign in Tumakuru from April 4 onwards

For Deve Gowda, Tumakuru will be the new turf after he passed on his traditional bastion, Hassan, to his grandson, R Prajwal.

Tumakuru: In a show of unity, leaders of JD (S) and Congress plan to address a series of rallies to drum up support for former prime minister H D Deve Gowda beginning April 4.

For Mr Deve Gowda, Tumakuru will be the new turf after he passed on his traditional bastion, Hassan, to his grandson, R Prajwal, son of PWD minister H D Revanna. In this constituency, he is pitted against Mr G S Basavaraju of BJP.

According to the itinerary, leaders of JD (S) and Congress would hold closed door meetings from April 1 to 3 in all Assembly seats with party workers and goad them to work for Mr Gowda’s success. Similar meetings would be held in all major towns of the constituency beginning Monday.

Along with Mr Deve Gowda, Congress leaders -Dr G Parameshwara and others would be part of the campaign while JD (S) leader and minister Srinivas would also tag along. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah would campaign for Mr Deve Gowda in Tumakuru on April 4 and April 5.

Tumakuru Congress president Ramakrishna told Deccan Chronicle on Saturday that differences among party workers in Congress on the candidature of Mr Deve Gowda have been ironed out.

Mr Deve Gowda himself would hit the campaign trail in Tumakuru beginning April 4 and cover Turuvekere, Tiptur, Gubbi and Chikkanayakana halli, and resume the campaign on April 8 and 9.
