Threat scares BJP MPs in Telangana

It is said that the MPs were not feeling secure with the security provided by the state government.

Hyderabad: In the wake of the alleged attacks on BJP MPs in the state, the Union home ministry is said to be planning to provide them security using central security forces. This is based on intelligence agencies about the threat to the MPs.

It is said that the MPs were not feeling secure with the security provided by the state government.

Recently, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar surrendered his security detail, alleging that Karimnagar police commissioner V.B. Kamalasan Reddy had given a report that stone-pelting did not take place during Mr Sanjay’s civic polls campaign. Mr Sanjay said he did not need security from the state police as none had stopped the stone-pelting.

It is learned that the intelligence agencies inquired into the allegations and found that stone-pelting did take place and stones fell on Mr Sanjay and a police constable.

Nizamabad BJP MP D. Arvind had claimed that when he was campaigning for the municipal elections, an attack was planned on him and his supporters were targeted and attacked.

Adilabad MP S. Bapu Rao is leading a movement to protect the rights of Adivasis living in the forest areas and is fighting against the state government. As most of his Lok Sabha constituency is located in the forests, the intelligence agencies have given a report to the Centre to increase security for him as well. Sources close to the agencies have shared that the MHA is thinking of providing security for the three BJP MPs from the Central Reserve Police Force.

Mr Sanjay had even complained to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the privileges committee that he was attacked during the funeral procession of an RTC employee who had died during the staff strike late last year.

The intelligence agencies are said to have given a report to the privilege committee that the state police was rude towards the MP. Priveleges committee is likely to hold a meeting and advise the state government to take action on on the police personnel involved in the incident.
