GP elections: Women voters throng booths to cast votes
Nizamabad: The third and final phase of gram panchayat elections was conducted peacefully in Nizamabad district on Wednesday.
Interestingly, women voters in large numbers voted. 79.81 per cent polling was recorded in the district as Nizamabad rural mandal recorded the highest at 83.93 per cent and Dharpally mandal recorded the lowest at 74.25 per cent polling.
Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha voted along with her family members at Pothangal village in Navipet mandal.
Voters, whose votes went missing, staged a protest in Gannaram village of Indalwai mandal.
In Makloor, a contesting candidate was caught distributing '10,650 to voters. Police seized the money and reported to district officials.
Of the 1.15 lakh women voters, 1 lakh voted recording an 87.07 per cent turnout.
Of 1.01 lakh men voters, merely 72,262 voters voted. Nizamabad district collector M.R.M. Rao and general election observer Champa Lal visited polling stations and supervised through web casting. In Kamareddy district, election observer A. Dinakar Babu and district collector N.Satyanarayana visited polling stations.
Election officials concentrated on the interstate borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Police were deployed at sensitive polling booths and other polling stations in both the districts.
