ST Somashekar , (BJP), As he treads a new path as the BJP's nominee in his home turf, Yeshwanthpur, disqualified legislator, ST Somashekar, holds a grudge against the previous coalition government: He could not help people of his constituency as he was appointed Chairman of BDA, a post sans power. He claims that most corporators and workers of other parties, too, are working for his victory, leaving no room for even a semblance of opposition from T.N.Javarayi Gowda of JD (S). He spoke to Deccan Chronicle during his campaign on Friday.
Q: How is your journey on the new path?
I have started my campaign, and it is going on very well. I am very happy that apart from members of BJP, all those who were with me at the beginning of my political career, have joined me in this new journey. My victory will serve as a major lesson for all those in the previous coalition government. The CM's post was given to JD (S) though the Congress won more seats in Assembly polls in 2018, and legislators like me did out best to strengthen the collation government. I am hurt because I was appointed Chairman of BDA, but with my hands tied behind my back. I was not able to help people of this constituency.
Q: Who do you consider as your toughest opponent?
I do not see any opposition because corporators belonging to the Congress, too, are working for my victory. People are asking where was our JD(S) candidate during the last ten years? What has he done (for the benefit of people of the constituency)? He's seen only during elections..
Q: Do you plan to request a star campaigner from the BJP to campaign in this constituency?
Though BJP leaders like Shobha Karandlaje and Jaggesh have already offered to support me, major star campaigners are our local leaders because all corporators of BJP and Congress, and members of zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat are proving a major source of strength for me. I am sure they will help me emerge victorious in the bypoll.
