MK Stalin wants jallikattu-like protest for students' cause

The ruling AIADMK was only interested in protecting their government, neglecting the future of the students , he alleged.

COIMBATORE: Calling upon the students to take up jallikattu-like protests to safeguard their rights, DMK working president M.K. Stalin claimed that Tamil Nadu would have got permanent exemption from Neet had the State government exerted pressure on the Centre.

“Tamil Nadu could have got exemption from Neet had the AIADMK government exerted pressure on the BJP during the President and Vice President elections”, Stalin said here on Sunday. He charged that the Centre failed to take any action despite the Assembly passing a resolution seeking exemption for the state from Neet.

If the 50 AIADMK MPs exerted pressure on the BJP during the elections to the president and vice president, TN could have got the exemption, he said, while speaking at a function at Mettupalayam near here. The ruling AIADMK was only interested in “protecting their government, neglecting the future of the students”, he alleged. He participated in a function organised by the DMK youth wing to commemorate the 109th birth anniversary of late CM C.N. Annadurai, distributed prizes to the students who distinguished themselves in various competitions including elocution and essay writing.

“While many leaders have fought against Hindi imposition, students were responsible for its full success. In recent times, the country will never forget the ‘Marina Revolution’ in which the students and youth came together for jallikattu, which reflects our culture. Similarly, the students and youth should strive for social and economic advancement of Tamil Nadu, protect the language and our cultural identity," he urged.
