Many TD leaders who were to follow ex-MLA into Congress drop out

Mr Revanth Reddy had submitted a list of leaders who would follow him into the Congress.

Hyderabad: Many of the leaders who were supposed to join the Congress along with former TD working president A. Revanth Reddy appear to have dropped out. They were to join the Congress in the presence of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on October 31 in Delhi.

The discrepancies in the ‘original’ list and the revised submitted to them by Revanth Reddy were discovered at a meeting between AICC Telangana state incharge R.C. Kunthia, who reached here on Sunday, and TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy.

According to sources, Mr Revanth Reddy had submitted a list of leaders who would follow him into the Congress. The list included TD Sattupally MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, TD national general secretary E. Peddireddy, TD general secretary and former MLA Kottakota Dayakara Reddy, former MLA and TD Politburo member Seethakka (Dh-anasiri Anasuya) and former MLA Vijayara-mana Rao. But it turned out that all these leaders said they were not inclined to join the Congress.

Senior Congress leaders then contacted Mr Revanth Reddy and asked him to provide them a revised list which could be communicated to Mr Rahul Gandhi’s office for formal approval.

As per the original plans, Mr Revanth Reddy and 20 ‘senior’ leaders were supposed to take a flight to Delhi on Monday evening and join the Congress the next day. Due to the ‘drop outs’, the figure might be reduced to a dozen.

The Congress leaders began contacting party leaders in the districts to tell them that the newcomers would need to be adjusted. They said no commitments were being made, and tickets would be given only based on ‘winnability’.
