Congress Eyes BRS Welfare Vote Bank, Gives Guarantee Cards to Those in \'Waiting-List\'

HYDERABAD: The Congress is trying to make a dent in the 'welfare schemes vote-bank' of the BRS. It has gathered data of the people in every Assembly constituency, who have submitted applications for BRS government's welfare schemes but failed to get the benefit.

Lakhs of people had applied for the BRS government’s welfare schemes but have had to wait for years to get the benefit. The Congress is now reaching out to such people with its six guarantee cards, and promising them to give the benefits within 100 days of coming to power.

The government received 10 lakh applications for 2BHK houses. The government shortlisted 3.6 lakh. It has undertaken ground-level verification of 1.6 lakh applications, causing immense resentment among the applicants.
Of this, the BRS government could hand over about 50,000 houses to beneficiaries so far.

Same is the case with Dalit Bandhu, it has been able to extend the benefit to only Dalit families in all Assembly constituencies. Nearly 17 lakh Dalit families are waiting for the Rs 10 lakh benefit while only 40,000 have got the scheme.
For the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, the government inivited applications for which 15 lakh applied. The government promised to extend Rs 3 lakh financial assistance to construct houses to poor people who own plots. The government that it would pay 3,000 beneficiaries in every Assembly constituency in March, but the scheme is yet to be grounded.

The Congress party through its constituency-level and booth level workers gathered the data of all such applicants who failed to receive the benefits of welfare schemes.

A war room set up recently at Indira Bhavan, is monitoring the distribution of Congress guarantee cards to people at every booth level and ensuring that the cards reach every applicant without fail.
