One year given for framing State Education Policy
CHENNAI: The 13-member committee that was set up in April to frame a State Education Policy had been given a year’s time to submit its report to the government, State Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudi said on Friday.
The committee headed by Retired Delhi High Court Chief Justice D Murugesan comprises chess legend Vishwanathan Anand, Carnatic musician T M Krishna and a headmaster of a panchayat union middle school, R Balu.
Its mandate is to come up with a with an educational policy that would be suitable for the state as the government was not in favour of implementing the Union government’s National Educational Policy
Ponmudy also announced that students passing their higher secondary examinations by appearing for the supplementary tests would also be eligible for admission in government arts and science colleges in this academic year itself.
The necessary circular would be sent to all principals of colleges urging them to admit those clearing the higher secondary through the supplementary examinations, he told media persons after inspecting the engineering admission centre at the Directorate of Technical Education inside the Anna University campus.
Engineering colleges in the State were expected to start classes for the first year students at the end of October after completion of the fourth round of counselling for admissions, he said. The admission process had been delayed due to the late release of NEET results by the Union Government, he said.
The second round of counselling for engineering admissions had been completed and 4,289 candidates were waiting for upward movement, he said, adding that the third round would start on October 13.
The ranking list for BArch admissions would be announced on Wednesday, October 5, and the single phase of counselling would be held on October 8.
