BJP core panel to plan for Telangana civic polls

Mr Shah, during his recent visit for the membership drive, had directed state leaders to focus on the booths.

Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP will chalk out its strategy for the municipal elections at a core committee meeting on September 3.

The BJP had won just one seat in the Assembly elections last year but bagged four Lok Sabha seats in May. This has given the confidence to the BJP leadership that it can bag a sizeable number of municipalities if it fights the elections with the same spirit against the ruling TRS and the Congress.

A source in the party said that the blueprint prepared by state leaders in the core committee meeting will be checked by party president Amit Shah who is expected to address a few public meetings in TS.

Mr Shah, during his recent visit for the membership drive, had directed state leaders to focus on the booths. There are 142 municipalities across the state where BJP leaders are confident of giving a tough fight to the car of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Congress’s hand.

BJP senior leader N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, a former legislator, told this newspaper that the road was not easy for Mr Rao. BJP national executive member and MLC N. Ramachander Rao said, “The BJP is sure of its massive victory in the municipal elections. We have started laying out the campaign strategy.”

Senior state leaders have started visiting different areas to get members to join the party.
