Thakre seeks Krishnaiah's support of BCs in polls

HYDERABAD: Stating that AICC leader Rahul Gandhi gave priority to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), AICC in-charge for Telangana Manikrao Thakre on Saturday promised to solve the problems the community faced across the country once the party comes to power at the Centre.

Thakre was speaking after meeting national BC leader R. Krishnaiah, a YSRC Rajya Sabha member from AP, at the latter’s office here. Thakre was seeking the support of BCs for the party in the state.

Krishnaiah, Thakre and senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao discussed several issues related to the OBC community.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, Thakre said that OBC issues would figure prominently in the Congress agenda, including assurances of providing reservations in IIM and IITs.

Krishnaiah said that at least 50 BC community leaders and members had visited the office following Thakre's visit.

"I submitted a representation to Thakre on 18 demands such as enhancement of OBC reservation from 27 to 50 per cent in IIMs, IITs and other academic courses, reservations for BCs, SCs, and STs in the Supreme Court and High Courts. The Congress must allocate 50 per cent seats to BCs in the elections and an assurance from the party of having a OBC minister in the Union Cabinet," Krishaniah said.
