CPM corporator on hunger strike against capital value property tax

CPM state secretary P. Madhu and executive member Ch. Babu Rao visited the government hospital and offered lime juice to Satyababu

VIJAYAWADA: Although CPM corporator B. Satyababu was forcefully shifted to government hospital from Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, he continued his protest in the hospital against GO No: 198 that imposed property tax on the basis of capital value.

It may be recalled that at the VMC council meeting on Wednesday, GO No: 198 was passed amid protests from opposition benches. Satyababu started a hunger-strike in the Corporation office premises demanding withdrawal of capital value based property tax. In the wee hours of Thursday, police rushed to the municipal office and asked Satyababu to call off his fast but in vain. He was forcibly shifted to the government hospital.

CPM state secretary P. Madhu and executive member Ch. Babu Rao visited the government hospital and offered lime juice to Satyababu. Madhu alleged that VMC officials and YSR Congress did not follow the rules during the council meeting. He alleged that the YSRC government was victimizing opposition leaders and activists who were demanding cancellation of the proposal as people would be over-burdened.

Babu Rao said that the Communist parties and other people’s organizations would decide the future course of action, including launching agitations demanding rollback of the proposal.
