Demand to convene BJP state committee soon
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State committee members demand a sitting on revamping the party structure to ensure a win in the upcoming by-elections.
The last meeting of the panel was on Oct 30, 2017, much before P. S. Sreedharan Pillai took over as its president
Former Congress leader G. Raman Nair and former Kerala Women's Commission member Prameela Devi have become vice-president and a member since, but workers knew about it only from the media.
Usually, such decisions to bring in new people will be discussed at least at the high-level core committee meeting.
"Things were happening as per its constitution until Kummanam (Rajasekharan) was heading the party.
But now, the majority of us are in the dark as to what is happening. Mr Pillai is not taking anyone into confidence," said a former district president.
General secretary M. T. Ramesh maintains that just before the Lok Sabha elections, the state committee had met with district presidents as invitees. But Mr Pillai remained incommunicado.
Critics also say the election committee was also not meeting and Mr Pillai is facing the wrath of a section of leaders for allegedly sending a list of probable candidatures to the national leadership.
They claimed that the controversy could have been avoided if the state committee was held.
"We don't know whether Suresh Gopi is also in the state committee," quipped the former district chief. "So, A. P. Abdullakutty must also have found a place there."
