Coalition panel unanimously adopts draft CMP

The CMP assumes significance as the coalition government is set to present its first budget on July 5.

Bengaluru: A draft report on the Common Minimum Programme(CMP) which includes the much publicised farm loan waiver, was on Friday unanimously adopted by a committee set up by the ruling JDS-Congress coalition.

The committee’s report incorporates salient features from the manifestos of both parties and will be placed before the coalition co-ordination committee meeting on Sunday. “We have unanimously adopted a report which will be presented to the co-ordination committee, it includes the crop loan waiver for loans obtained both from the co-operative and commercial banks," drafting committee member and senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily said after attending the third meeting of the committee here.

“This demonstrates the fact that the bond will be cemented between the Congress and JD(S), and there will not be any hiccups whatsoever in implementing the programmes for another five years,” he said. Mr Moily added that the draft had been prepared by maintaining a balance between the Congress and JD(S) manifestos and keeping in mind what needs to be implemented in the next five years. He also said all the flagship programmes of the previous Congress government would continue. Asked whether they have laid down the priorities for the government, Mr Moily, who had earlier headed the Congress manifesto committee, said that is for the government to decide. "We cannot interfere. In the CMP we have set out the programmes in various sectors that need to be implemented," he added.

The CMP assumes significance as the coalition government is set to present its first budget on July 5. While revenue minister R.V. Deshpande and water resources minister D.K. Shivakumar are the other two members of the panel from the Congress along with Mr Moily, the JD(S) is represented by PWD minister H. D. Revanna and Cooperation Minister Bandeppa Kashempur.
