BBMP council meet: Women corporators reduced to tears
Bengaluru: The BBMP council meet, which was supposed to discuss problems faced by Bengaloreans, yet again turned out to be a fight between three women corporators of Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency and the area MLA Munirathna (of Congress party) and his followers.
As soon as the council started on Thursday, Manjula Narayanaswamy of JD(S), Asha Suresh of Congress and Mamatha Vasudev of BJP sat on a dharna in the well of the council hall.
The main opposition party BJP too joined the protest and demanded justice for the three women. The main complaint of the protesting corporators was that Munirathna and his followers were obstructing them from carrying out their work and also alleged that they were making false allegations against them.
Replying to the allegations that Mamatha Vasudev, who represents J P Park ward, had grabbed government land in J.P. Park, leader of opposition Padmanabha Reddy said the land was indeed was occupied by BBMP for the welfare of poor and asked Mayor G. Padmavathi to refer to Koliwad committee report on lakes.
“This apart Congress corporator Asha has allegedly carried out irregularities to the tune of Rs 120 crore. There are also allegations against Ms Manjula too,” Reddy said and demanded a CBI probe on all the allegations and irregularities in RR Nagar constituency.
Mayor Padmavathi demanded that the three women corporators explain their problem in a letter addressed to her and assured to take all possible actions within her capacity.
Not satisfied with Mayor's reply, BJP members walked out of the council meet and stated that the Mayor had failed to conduct council meeting as per rules and regulation.
