Dr G plays it down: Our differences are minor

Have to discuss and arrive at a consensus on farm loan waiver: Dy CM.

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar claimed on Tuesday that there was no difference of opinion on distribution of cabinet portfolios between the coalition partners in the state.

Speaking to reporters here, Dr Parameshwar said, “This being a coalition set-up, minor hiccups are common. Once everything falls into place we will form the cabinet.”

He added that the coalition partners had agreed to a formula for distributing 22 ministries, including the DCM post among the Congressmen and 12 ministries among the JD(S) members.

“Even to this day, I have not been assigned any portfolio , but both parties will soon arrive on a formula for sharing the portfolios,” he said.

In response to a question, Dr Parameshwar said that the coalition partners would take a final call on the farmers’ loan waiver. “It needs to be discussed at various levels before arriving at a consensus on the issue. It is not true that the Congress is opposed to the idea of farm loan waiver, but what we are talking about are modalities, which need to be followed before implementing such a far reaching decision,” he explained.

While scotching rumours about a growing tussle over distribution of portfolios, KPCC campaign committee chairman, D. K. Shivakumar asserted that he had not lobbied for any portfolio . "It is left to the party to give me a post. So why will I fight with JD(S) leader, H.D. Revanna? If the party leaders decide on portfolios, then the matter will be automatically resolved," he said, claiming that reports over a growing rift between him and Mr Revanna on the energy portfolio was a creation of the media. "It is the media which is indulging in sensationalising trivial issues," he contended in response to a question.
