Cops seize spurious seeds in Gadwala district

25 kgs of the seeds were mixed with colour, while 100 kg seeds were not mixed with colour.

HYDERABAD: The Police of Jogulamba Gadwala district conducted raids and seized huge quantities of spurious seeds in Gadwala town. The district had formed a special task force to control the supply of spurious seeds to farmers. The approximate value of the material seized on Monday is Rs 10 lakh.

According to the police, based on a tip off, raids were conducted on the residence of one T Venkat Reddy at Old Housing Board Colony and huge quantities of packed spurious cotton seeds were found. 25 kgs of the seeds were mixed with colour, while 100 kg seeds were not mixed with colour.

Ms Rema Rajeshwari, Superintendent of Police, Jogulamba Gadwala said special teams were conducting thorough checks at various locations and market areas to prevent spurious seed supply. “Anybody found indulging in this illegal trade will face strict actions as per the law. Awareness programmes for farmers is also being conducted in this aspect,” she said.

Meanwhile, in another incident in the district, the suppliers had dumped around 60 kgs of spurious seed in the Ryalampadu reservoir, afraid that the cops would be raiding them too.
