Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said he is avoiding a confrontation with the Centre over special category status for AP, and he is not sure whether or not the Centre will grant the status. He was speaking to the media at the Mahanadu venue here.
Later in the afternoon, during the valedictory speech, Mr Naidu reiterated his call to the Centre to grant special status. "I do not want any confrontation. Moreover, litigation cannot solve these problems. We are not seeking any undue favour from the Centre.
AP Reorganisation Act was brought in by the then Congress-led UPA, but it is also true that all parties supported it. So, it is the responsibility of the Centre and also all political parties to resolve our problems.”
When asked whether he was sure on the Centre granting special status,
Mr Naidu said, “They will do it or they will not do it. It is time for the Centre to be magnanimous to us. This is my appeal not only to the Centre but also to the people of this nation.”
Meanwhile, during the valedictory speech, Mr Naidu rebutted the allegations on Kapu reservations and said, “It was the Congress which promised Kapu reservations in 2004. Why did YSR not implement the promise?” He said East and West Godavari districts with huge Kapu populations stood behind him. “I am working sincerely on this,” the Chief Minister said.
