Left insists Lok Sabha vote is on PM Modi’s rule

CPM see red over Congress leaders trying to divert issues from NDA failure.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ruling LDF says the Lok Sabha ekectuibs are mainly on issues related to the performance of Narendra Modi led government at the Centre and not a referendum on Pinarayi Vijayan government as was being made out by UDF leaders.

Former chief minister Oommen Chandy had dared the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to declare openly that the elections were referendum on state government’s performance.

“Such arguments are irrelevant. It’s a crucial election to Indian Parliament. Naturally issues related to the polices of Modi government and their impact on the lives of people would figure prominently,” said LDF convener A. Vijayaraghavan.

He said the ramifications of the flawed economic policies of the Modi government were visible in agrarian sector, unemployment and industry. Besides, there have been attempts by the Central government to create division among the people on communal lines. Those creating trouble in the name of cow and religion had received the patronage of the Centre.

The LDF leaders, however, say since the elections were being held in Kerala the alternative policies being pursued by the Pinarayi government would also come in for discussion.

“People will certainly compare the policies of the LDF government and the Modi government. We are not shying away from discussing such issues. In fact we will be too happy to project our achievements,” said Vijyaragahvan.

The Left said the UDF is trying to reach an understanding with the BJP and that’s the reason they want to avoid issues related to Modi government.

“Let the UDF leaders tell the people that they don’t want us to raise issues like 15 lakh in everyone's account, 2 crore jobs annually, better prices for agricultural crops and acche din. Trying desperately to get Rahul to fight in Wayanad, sending Muraeedharan to Vadakara and being soft on Modi government all smack of the tacit understanding between UDF and BJP,” said the LDF convener.

The LDF leaders say whether the UDF likes it or not they will sharpen the attack on failures of Modi government at the Centre.
