CLP plea to disqualify defectors not taken up

Assembly secretary reportedly said that he was not authorised to take the plea under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.

Hyderabad: Assembly secretary V. Narasimhacharyulu on Friday refused to accept the complaint of the Congress Legislature Party regarding its MLAs who defected to the TRS.

The CLP on Friday held an emergency meeting at Gandhi Bhavan and decided to seek the disqualification of its legislators who had crossed the floor. The CLP meeting was attended by eight legislators out of nine who remain with the party, TPCC president and Huzurnagar MLA N. Uttam Kumar Reddy informed CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka that he was unable to attend the meeting as he was campaigning in Nalgonda.

Ten of the 19 Congress MLAs who were elected in December have decided to join the TRS.

Following the decision of the CLP, Mr Mallu Bhatti along with party MLAs went to hand over their complaint seeking the disqualification of defectors to Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

He was not available at his office and they met Mr Narasimhacharyulu to submit it. The official refused to accept it, reportedly telling the CLP delegation that he was not authorised to take it under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.

The Congress MLAs told the official that they were giving him the complaint as the Speaker was not available. The Assembly Secretary told them that he was ready to take any representation on any matter. He said the compliant seeking disqualification of MLAs should address to the Speaker and handed over directly to him.

The Speaker is at his home district Nizamabad. Congress MLAs said that they would give the complaint when he comes to the office.
