BJP eyes more seats in Telangana

Madhav said they are expecting 40 more seats than last time from the eastern parts of the country.

Nellore: The Bharatiya Janata Party is putting all its efforts into securing more Lok Sabha seats in the North-eastern states, West Bengal, and Odisha. National general secretary of the party Ram Madhav disclosed this when speaking to this newspaper on the sidelines of a well-attended, extensive meeting with party cadres at Nellore on Friday.

He said they are expecting 40 more seats than last time from the eastern parts of the country. He also said he was confident of getting more seats in Telangana and Karnataka apart from Tamil Nadu.

The party is contesting five seats in association with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and is confident of bagging at least three seats.

Reacting to a question, he said an action plan is ready to strengthen the party’s position by 2023 in Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh, adding that four years is not a long time in politics.

Addressing party cadres earlier in the day, he said the people of the country have already decided to give their mandate to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the discussion now is only about the number of seats.

He alleged that the AP government had failed to utilise the financial assistance provided by the Centre. He rebuked the Telugu Desam government for not laying a proper road to the capital city till now.

“AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao have been trying to project themselves as kingpins for uniting the Opposition parties, forgetting that there is already a king (Modi) and there is no use (being) with the anti-Modi team,” Mr Madhav said.

He claimed that the Central government has already initiated steps to establish the Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridor as the state government is not being cooperative.
