In Varuna, battle of Siddaramaiah sons, past and present?
Bengaluru: It could be the battle of the sons in Varuna constituency these elections. With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, Dr Yathindra all set to contest from Varuna constituency , the BJP is reportedly getting ready to field B.Y. Vijayendra, son of its state unit chief, B.S.Yeddyurappa against him; a battle of the sons of chief ministers, past and present.
While there is still some uncertainty in the BJP about Mr Siddaramaiah giving up Varuna for his son and opting for Chamundeshwari himself, sources close to Mr. Yeddyurappa say Vijayendra is keen on contesting from the former and has already sent his supporters to start the groundwork in the constituency. He is reportedly looking forward to the challenge of taking on Mr Siddaramaiah's son as the Chief Minister has lost no opportunity to attack his father for serving a jail term for corruption in land deals.
Although Vijayendra could have opted for a safe seat these polls, he has chosen the tough challenge of taking on Mr Siddaramaiah in his hometown, say BJP sources.
While the party has still to take a call on fielding him from Varuna, it's believed he stands a good chance considering his father's influence in such matters.
