Family first! Sons, daughters of Congress netas not on waiting list

The party is unabashedly encouraging more offspring of its politicians to enter the electoral fray this time.

Bengaluru: The coming assembly poll could see the rise of sons and daughters of Congress politicians with the party's election committee reportedly in favour of recommending the offspring of a few senior leaders for some constituencies.

Although often criticised for its promotion of dynastic politics, the party is unabashedly encouraging more offspring of its politicians to enter the electoral fray this time.

While many second generation politicians like Priyank Kharge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Krishna Byre Gowda and Priya Krishna are already making a mark in the party, there could be more joining them soon like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra and PWD minister, Dr H.C. Mahadevappa's son, Sunil Bose, who are in the running for Varuna and T. Narasipura constituencies respectively.

Congress MLA, K.N. Rajanna's son, Rajendra is said to be in the reckoning for Tumakuru Rural where the party has no strong candidate as of now. And in Chikkanayanakanahalli , Tumakuru district, the party has reportedly zeroed in on Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, T.B. Jayachandra's son, Santhosh. In Kolar, party MP, K.H. Muniyappa's daughter Roopa is likely to enter the fray.

While there is talk of the party fielding Home Minister, R. Ramalinga Reddy's daughter, Sowmya from Jayanagar in Bengaluru, sources say Mr Reddy is also considering Bommanahalli as a launch-pad for her.

In the case of former Chief Minister, Veerappa Moily's son, Harsha, the senior Moily has himself clarified he is not in the race for a party ticket from Karkala this time. And although Mr Kagodu Thimmappa's daughter was in with a chance for the Sagara constituency in Shivamogga constituency, it appears he himself now intends to contest from there, scuttling her chances.
