Bengaluru: BJP finalises 140 candidates

The names of the last tranche of 84 candidates would be made public in the third week of April

BENGALURU: Central leaders of BJP are likely to release the first list of candidates for 140 Assembly constituencies in the first or second week of April as state unit leaders have picked single candidates for these seats, including 40 won be party candidates during polls held in 2013.

Sources close to state unit president B S Yeddyurappa told Deccan Chronicle that these single candidates were chosen based on the outcome of surveys conducted by central and state units and the opinion of party cadre. With regard to seats where the party lacked a strong support base, the leaders have short-listed two or three candidates, the sources added.

Sources said party president Amit Shah would summon state unit leaders to New Delhi for consultations on the list of candidates soon after his tour of the state.

The names of the last tranche of 84 candidates would be made public in the third week of April as some leaders of Congress and JD (S) are likely to join the party and seek tickets to contest from some of these constituencies, sources added.
