VS Achuthanandan lashes out at Mani on Munnar

Power minister makes statement without studying issues, he alleges.

Thiruvananthapuram: Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday said power minister M M Mani was making statement without studying issues connected with Munnar encroachments.

The veteran leader said that people of the state were fully aware as to who spoke without any understanding of issues. On Tuesday Mani rebutted Achuthanandan's charge that large-scale encroachments were taking place in Munnar. "He has some memory problem. No encroachments are taking place in Munnar," the minister had stated while reacting to Achuthanandan’s charges levelled at a press conference.

CPM district secretary K K Jayachandran also criticised Achuthanandan for not visiting Munnar even once during UDF regime a large number of encroachments had taken in place. On the controversy over local MLA S Rajendran’s house, the CPM leader said the report against the legislator was prepared during UDF government's tenure.

He said there was an order for distributing KSEB land but later the related files had disappeared. "We will approach the court to trace the files,” he said.

The Idukki district secretary's remarks come close on the heels of Achuthanandan's accusation that those threatening officials were henchmen of the land mafia in Idukki.

He was apparently referring Mani and Rajendran who had threatened to break the limbs of officials acting encroachments in the hill town.
