BENGALURU: Congress veteran S.M. Krishna’s three-day stay in New Delhi has sent his party colleagues in Karnataka into a tizzy. Sources in Congress said Mr Krishna, who reached Delhi on Sunday, met senior party leaders and pushed for his candidate for the KPCC president’s post.
During these meetings, Mr Krishna reportedly presented his views on the performance of the state government. “The government and Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, are embroiled in one controversy after another, embarrassing the party repeatedly. First, it was about the Hublot wristwatch, followed by creation of Anti-Corruption Bureau,” sources added.
Mr Krishna’s visit assumes significance in view of Mr Siddaramaiah’s plan to carry out a major reshuffle of his ministry, in the process dumping many non-performing ministers, and bringing in new faces.
Mr Siddaramaiah wanted central leaders to give him a free hand in order to stop non-performers from mounting pressure on him through central leaders. Mr Krishna’s feedback, however, could prove a stumbling block for Mr Siddaramaiah, leaving him with no choice than consult senior leaders, and arrive at a consensus on the issue.
