Parties kick off informal campaign

It is PWD minister in Oomen Chandy cabinet V.K Ebrahim Kunju who pioneered the electioneering process this time.

KOCHI: As major political parties have released the first list of contestants in the 14 constituencies, proposed candidates have started focusing on informal campaigning. While parties are organising booth level conventions, candidates are busy attending family functions of voters and adding new voters to the voters’ list to ensure no one is omitted.

It is PWD minister in Oomen Chandy cabinet V.K Ebrahim Kunju who pioneered the electioneering process this time. Since Mr. Kunju was confident of getting the party ticket in Kalamassery, he launched the campaigning couple of weeks ago. Posters have appeared in every nook and cranny of the constituency.

Meanwhile, the grapevine is that minister K. Babu, aspiring for a sixth term in Tripunithura, has got the message clear from the top leadership and has not been attending booth level convention for the last two days.

However, the campaign trail is yet to pick up in Ernakulam, where the CPM has fielded its young leader M. Anil Kumar to wrest the seat from Hibi Eden. Though both have started attending meetings at local level, their presence is yet to be felt.
