Vijayakanth travels in bus to protest fare hike

The general thought among the long distance passengers is to avoid buying ticket and to pay the fine for ticket less travel.

Chennai: Urging party cadres and functionaries not to block roads as it causes inconvenience to motorists DMDK leader Vijayakanth on Monday travelled in a government bus in south Chennai and interacted with the bus passengers to know about their grievances.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. PalaniswamI and Deputy Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam are incapable of administering the state and they should quit their posts, DMDK leader Vijayakanth told reporters after his short bus journey.

Later addressing a public meeting in Pallavaram, the DMDK leader said, “I left my car near Asarkhana (Guindy Kathipara) and boarded a government bus to reach Tirusulam and the public during my interaction expressed their anguish over the steep increase in bus fare.

The general thought among the long distance passengers is to avoid buying ticket and to pay the fine for ticket less travel. There are bus tickets ranging up to Rs 700 and the fine for the ticketless travel is Rs 500,” Vijayakanth said.

“Party functionaries wanted to protest and jump in to road rokos, but I advised them not to carry out protests, as it affects the traffic flow,” he said.
