BJP: Report on talks with Telangana MP Asauddin Owaisi's party baseless

State BJP spokesperson Ashwathnarayana said the so-called think tank of the Congress party was behind these rumours.

Bengaluru: The BJP state unit has described as ‘baseless’ reports that the party will have an electoral pact with Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) headed by Telangana MP Asauddin Owaisi in the coming Assembly polls and said there was no need for the BJP to enter into an understanding with anyone, including MIM.

In a press release here, state BJP spokesperson Ashwathnarayana said the so-called think tank of the Congress party was behind these rumours. The timing of the rumour is understandable as the ruling party headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stands exposed on matters related to the issue and re-issue of a controversial circular proposing withdrawal of cases filed against minorities. The BJP had slammed the Congress on this and the ruling party had suffered a loss of face. To wriggle out of this embarrassing situation, the Congress has resorted to this ‘dirty trick’, he asserted.

The BJP leader said his party was confident of getting an absolute majority and form the government on its own in Karnataka. He claimed the Congress had plans to strike an electoral pact with SDPI to ‘avoid a split’ in minority votes. Having realised that the ground was slipping from under its feet after seeing the tremendous response to Parivarthana Yatra by state BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Congress was rattled and had launched a disinformation campaign.
