Technical glitch hits supplies

Due to the technical glitch, erroneous bills were issued to liqour traders.

Hyderabad: Liquor supplies across the state were on Friday affected following a technical glitch in the computerised billing system at the government liquor depots.

Since liquor traders tend to procure more stocks during the last week of every month, most liquor shops in the state were running out of stock as there was no supply during the last two days.

The excise department had recently introduced “Trace & Track”, a new software for computerised billing of stocks to check illegal diversion and bring transparency in distribution and sales.

Due to the technical glitch, erroneous bills were issued to traders. When traders brought this to the notice of the depot officials, they stopped supplies till technical issues are resolved.

Traders said not only their business was getting affected but the government was also losing revenue due to lower sales as excise department remains the major revenue earner for the state.

Supplies were affected in Ranga Reddy-2, Hyderabad-1, Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal and part of Karimnagar districts. However, excise commissioner R.V. Chandravadan said the technical glitch has been resolved and supplies restored.
