Kerala Congress leader K Muraleedharan's supporters attack Rajmohan Unnithan

Supporters of Murali hurl rotten eggs at Rajmohan Unnithan.

Kollam: The tussle between Congress leaders K. Muraleedharan MLA and Rajmohan Unnithan turned worse on Wednesday with the “supporters” of Muraleedharan attacking the latter in the courtyard of Kollam DCC office on Wednesday.

The protesters hurled rotten eggs and vandalised Mr Unnithan’s car as they tried to block him from entering the office. Mr Unnithan later entered the office to attend the founding day celebrations of the party.

DCC president Bindu Krishna later suspended six of them, namely M.S. Ajith Kumar, Binu Mangalath, S.P. Atul, R.S. Baby, Sankaranarayanan, and Vishnu Vijayan. A committee has also been constituted by the DCC for further inquiry following which the report will be submitted to the KPCC.

Mr Unnithan reached near the office gate by 11 am when a group of “protesters” blocked his car raising slogans against him.

Most of them non-party members, they were also heard yelling out the words – “Rajmohan Unnithan who insulted K. Muraleedharan, one of the best KPCC presidents, will not be allowed inside.”

The driver later managed to move the car further. Stone hurled by the protesters broke the car’s front door glass on the driver's side. Mr Unnithan was also verbally abused.

Other party workers saved him from further attacks, and he managed to enter the office. He later blamed Mr Muraleedharan for the assault terming it as an act of intolerance for criticising him.

“The incident took place today is a repetition of what happened in 2004 at Thiruvananthapuram where T. Saratchandra Prasad and I were attacked. It was prepaid goons behind the assault, and I was saved after seeking refuge inside the DCC president’s room. The incident was an attempt to kill me. I also have the capacity to retaliate by collecting more people than this, but it is not my culture,” he said inside at the DCC office.

He also “reminded” Mr Muraleedharan that the “goons” whom he fostered were still alive.
