Hyderabad: Kontham Deepika, the BJP corporator from Monda Market, on Monday accused the Hyderabad police of lodging false cases charging her of vandalising GHMC head office on November 23.
Refuting the charges, the BJP corporator said she was at Srisailam with her husband on the day. Backing her claims with evidence, she produced the photographs and toll charge receipts for her vehicle at Konetipuram toll plaza at 8.52 am and 5.29 pm when the incident took place.
The Hyderabad police on November 24, filed cases against BJP corporators for vandalising the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) head office on Tuesday (November 23).
The corporator was addressing the media on Monday after she was served a notice on November 27 under Section 41 A of CrPC and asked her to appear for investigation.
On November 23, 10 BJP corporators broke flower pots, damaged furniture, spray-painted signboards and tied a saffron 'kanduva' to the mayor's chair.
Though the TRS corporators on Wednesday cleaned GHMC head office premises and urged the Mayor to disqualify the corporators for causing loss of the public property, minister K.T. Rama Rao had requested Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar to take strict action against BJP's corporators and workers. “Some thugs & hooligans of BJP in Hyderabad vandalised the GHMC office yesterday. I strongly condemn this atrocious behaviour (sic)," tweeted Rao. "Guess it's too much to ask Godse bhakts to behave in a Gandhian manner," the minister added.
Following the incident, GHMC officials lodged a complaint against the police, who promptly registered cases against the BJP corporators and their followers under Sections 147, 353, 448, 427 r/w, 149 of the Indian Penal Code and section 3 of the PDDP Act.
A police official said action against BJP workers involved will be taken after scanning the CCTV footage.
Monda market corporator Deepika, however, told Deccan Chronicle that she was shocked to see the police serve her a notice, charging her with multiple crimes. “I was in Srisailam along with my husband on that particular day. Police have not done their basic investigation and have booked cases on all BJP corporators. I visited the police station and produced the evidence on Monday. Cops were yet to withdraw their cases," she said.
