Ensure free, fair polls: CEO to officials

Karimnagar: State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj directed the officials of various concerned departments to conduct the Assembly elections transparently without giving any scope for irregularities by taking necessary steps.

He held a review meeting at the collectorate in Karimnagar on Saturday with the district election officers, returning officers and police officials of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and Jagtial districts on the measures and arrangements for free and fair polls in their respective districts.

The CEO told the officials to identify sensitive polling stations, redress the complaints, create awareness among voters about C-Vigil app and ensure permissions for campaigning.

He ordered the removal of posters and wall writings of parties, intensified vehicle checking, installation of CCTV cameras and distribution of election material without causing inconvenience to common people. He told the police department to curb belt shops and ensure all the licensed weapons were deposited.

The officials were told to focus on increasing the voting percentage by removing duplication of voters in the list and providing facilities for differently-abled and elderly voters to exercise their franchise from their residences.

Stating that the nomination process would be videotaped, the CEO said the bank transactions and the expenditure by the contestants would be under scanner.
