Congress Will Implement Six Guarantees Immediately, Says Kharge

HYDERABAD: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday said that the Congress would implement its Six Guarantees, which it had promised to the people in Telangana, as soon as it came to power in the state.

Addressing public meetings in Sangareddy and Medak on Sunday as part of the second phase of the Congress’ Vijayabheri bus yatra, Kharge said, "Do not fall for the propaganda of the BRS and the BJP. We promised five guarantees in Karnataka and have delivered four of them within five months. We have promised Telangana Six Guarantees. We deliver what we promise. Our Six Guarantees will change the lives of the poorest. Bangaru Telangana, the dream of the Congress, shall be fulfilled."

Kharge came down heavily on Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Without Sonia Gandhi’s initiative, formation of Telangana state would not have been possible, he said.

Recalling that Telangana had got statehood due to the commitment of the Congress, Kharge said the party made its poll promises only after careful thinking and always implemented them.

He alleged that the BJP and its ‘B’ team BRS were working together for their own benefit, while the Congress would always work for the welfare of people. The Congress had made India self-reliant, he pointed out.

“There is no mention of the BJP or the BRS in the Indian Independence struggle and they are now asking what the Congress did for the nation,” Kharga said. Kharge said the BRS government has thrown a surplus state like Telangana into a debt trap by borrowing '5 lakh crore in nine years.

Speaking about the Congress’ much-publicised Five Guarantees in Karnataka, the Congress president said the government had implemented four of them and the last of the five will be rolled out in November. He asked BRS leaders to visit Karnataka to see the implementation of Congress Guarantees.

Citing the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme as a classic example of high level corruption by the BRS government, he called upon the people to give a fitting lesson to the BRS government for its misdeeds and scams, and vote for the Congress for integrated development of people.

Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘jhoota’ and dhokebaaz’, Kharge recalled that Modi had assured the people of creating two crore jobs every year and depositing '15 lakh in each person’s bank account. These promises were not kept, he said.

“There are three lakh vacancies in banking, insurance and railways, but the BJP government filled up only 2,000 to 5,000 jobs,” he said.

He pointed out that the Manmohan Singh government, when Sonia Gandhi led the UPA, had introduced flagship schemes like MGNREGS, food security Act, health assistance and compulsory education.

When he was a block president of the Congress in 1969, Kharge recalled, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had nationalised banks and insurance companies. The youths were attracted to the Congress due its nationalist initiatives, he said and added: “Without fear of Modi, Amit Shah and KCR, people should vote for Congress.
