Surendran not to withdraw appeal

He approached High Court alleging even the dead or those living abroad had cast their votes against him.

Kasargod: BJP state general secretary K. Surendran will not withdraw his appeal against the 2016 election result of Manjeshwaram assembly constituency.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said that CPM and IUML should cooperate to settle the case before the by-poll notification following the death of P.B. Abdul Razak MLA, who defeated him by a slender margin of 89 votes.

He approached High Court alleging even the dead or those living abroad had cast their votes against him.

The present status of the case is that the court had asked suspicious voters to directly present. After the death of the legislator a few days back, HC had sought Mr Surendran’s opinion in continuing with the complaint.

“I will continue the case. CPM and IUML are responsible for delaying of the proceedings as they are preventing the witnesses from summoning in the court," he said.

"Both the parties are hand in glove in blocking the delivery of summons letter. Sixty-seven voters have to be produced in the court in a week. That is possible if CPM and IUML let the voters come to the court.”

He expressed confidence that he would win the case. On Sabarimala issue, he alleged that CPM had brought in hardcore party cadres from party villages in Kannur to create tension at the hill shrine.
