It's rush hour at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee

Mr Nachiappan held talks with Mr Shashi Tharoor MP here before his return when Mr Tharoor urged him to include youth leaders in the list.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: AICC's returning officer Sudarshan Nachiappan returned to New Delhi on Thursday with the final list of the 282-member governing council of the KPCC which will be reviewed at a meeting of all the returning officers from 29 states and seven Union territories on October 3. Mr Nachiappan held talks with Mr Shashi Tharoor MP here before his return when Mr Tharoor urged him to include youth leaders in the list.

The list will be reviewed by senior Congress leader A.K. Antony, Mr Mullapally Ramachandran, AICC’s organisational election committee chairman, and also Mr Mukul Wasnik, AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala. At present, there are nine vacancies from Thiruvanant-hapuram district alone. “The leaders from Kollam district are trying to fill the vacancies in Thiruvananthapuram district where the party has zero account,” a Congress MLA told this newspaper.
The party has shown its strength in Thiruvana-nthapuram district in the last Assembly elections. The leaders from the district want to be included in the governing council so as to be promoted to the KPCC executive committee in the future.

“Though there are no perks for being a KPCC member, it is a status symbol in the locality,” said a KPCC secretary. Apart from the two group leaders, former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran and K. Muraleedharan MLA too have given their preferences to Mr Nachiappan. Several aspirants have made a beeline to New Delhi to ensure their names in the final list before it is approved by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi on October 3.
