BJP's broom protest' baffles celebrating Congress workers
Bengaluru: While Congress workers burst crackers to celebrate the victory of their party candidate and Deverajeevanahalli corporator,
Sampath Raj, in the Mayoral election on Thursday, BJP corporators, who boycotted the election, did the unexpected. Picking up brooms they began to sweep their mess!
If this was meant to be a form of protest not many seemed to register it. Seeing the BJP corporators walk out of the council hall shouting slogans against the Congress party and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah while the election was underway, Congress workers standing outside the BBMP building began to raise slogans against them. But once it was officially announced that Mr Sampath
Raj had been elected the 51st Mayor of the city, they began to burst crackers and distribute sweets as was expected.
But then they and others were baffled to see BJP corporators led by BBMP leader of the opposition, Padmanabha Reddy, rush into their chambers and bring out brooms to sweep the mess they were creating with the crackers.
Hardly deterred by their “protest,” grinning Congress workers mocked their BJP rivals saying, “Looks like
you are carrying out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachch Bharat mission by sweeping the BBMP’s head office!”
