TS must have double engine \'sarkar\', says Minister Verma

KHAMMAM: Union Minister BL Verma said on Monday that Telangana required a “double-engine” government for the state’s speedier development, just as the North-East has. He meant a BJP government that will be powered by the Centre too.

“The development of the north-eastern states is speedy due to the double engine governments there,” the minister who holds charge of the N-E states said.

He said the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to develop the nation. “The opposition ridiculed the opening of ‘Jandhan’ accounts for the poor but the scheme proved to be a success. Construction of houses for the poor is going on and each poor family will get one,” he said.

The Ayushmanbhava programme has given a guarantee to the health of the poor while they are also getting free gas connection under the Ujjwala Yojana scheme, he said.

On free ration in the Covid-19 situation, the minister said the Modi government distributed free rice to 80 crore people. Free vaccination against the Covid-19 was another major step.

Corruption, he said, was rampant during the Congress-led UPA governments. “The BJP government gave befitting answer to the Pulwama attacks by aerial bombing in Pakistan. The National Flag was unfurled on 22 crore houses under the slogan of ‘Ghar Ghar Ka Tiranga’ on the occasion of completion of the 75th I-Day celebrations.

Verma said that the Kodad-Mahabubabad highway works were on the speedway and he came to the district as part of the Parliament Pravasi Yojana programme. He would inspect the central government schemes in various districts.

The Union Minister participated in various development programmes in Khammam and visited the house of Tammineni Krishnaiah, who was killed in Teldarpalli. He criticised the government inaction vis-a-vis the murder case. Verma said he would ask the police to give protection to the family members of Krishnaiah.
