NIA files chargesheet against four alleged CPI (Maoist) recruiters

Investigating agency says they were recruiting under cover of some Telangana youth organisations

Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge-sheet in court against four persons, including Telangana State Committee member Yapa Narayana (52) alias Haribhushan, for recruiting and raising funds for the banned naxalite group, CPI (Maoist).

While Yapa Narayana remains underground, the chargesheet filed in the Nampally criminal courts names three others for allegedly carrying out radical activities under the guise of front organisations.

They are Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) president Bandari Maddileti (31), general secretary Menchu Sandeep (26) aka Praveen, and Telangana Praja Front state vice-president Nalamasa Krishna (38) alias Rathnamala.

Bandari Maddileti, 31, state president of the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) was arrested in 2019 for allegedly trying to carry out under-cover activities for the CPI (Maoist). Subsequently NIA arrested Menchu Sandeep, 26, general secretary of TVV, Nalamasa Krishna, 38, vice-president of the Telangana Praja Front.

The NIA chargesheet said the suspects were using front organizations like the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika and the Telangana Praja Front as cover to further the cause of the banned CPI (Maoist).

The accused allegedly raised funds through educational institutions and radicalized and recruited youth into the CPI (Maoist) to indulge in anti-national activities, the NIA chargesheet said.
