‘Ex-Speaker plotted my defeat in LS poll’

Former Union minister K.H. Muniyappa blames Ramesh Kumar for his loss in Kolar seat.

Bengaluru: Former Union minister and senior Congress leader, K.H. Muniyappa on Wednesday demanded action against former Speaker, K.R. Ramesh Kumar and Bangarpet MLA, Narayanaswamy for allegedly plotting his defeat in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

"I have given a complaint against them to KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and am awaiting action. If they have an iota of self respect they should not enter our party office," Mr Muniyappa fumed, speaking to reporters here.

He said he had also submitted a detailed report to the fact finding committee constituted to get to the bottom of the worst ever performance of the Congress in the state in the LS polls. "Those who have cheated the party must not be allowed to continue with it. They are more dangerous than its enemies," he stressed.

Mr Muniyappa claimed that Mr Ramesh Kumar and Mr Narayanaswamy had worked against him and openly campaigned against the Congress party during the LS election. " I brought Ramesh Kumar to the Congress and got him the ticket to contest from Srinivasapura constituency. I helped him grow in the party. But now he is working against me," he charged, alleging that MLC, Nasir Ahmed and Shidlaghatta MLA, V Muniyappa and former minister, Nagesh were responsible for his defeat too.

It is no secret that the Kolar Congress unit had objected to the party fielding Mr Muniyappa, a seven time MP, in the Lok Sabha poll and had protested against the state leadership after he was announced as the party candidate, contending that he had done nothing for the district despite representing it for almost three decades. The sitting Congress legislators not only abstained from the campaign, but also allegedly worked quietly for the BJP candidate, who won.
