Stalin perfectly suited for DMK president role: MP Kanimozhi

The ruling AIADMK had no conscience and thalapathy did not want others to feel inconvenient at that juncture, she said.

Chennai: “There is no one in the party other than you to take reins,” said DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi during party general council meeting held on Tuesday.

Recalling Kalaignar's hospitalisation in Kauvery hospital, Kanimozhi said “When Kalaignar's health started deteriorating, Stalin was firm that if something bad happened, Kalaignar should be buried in Anna memorial. However, when ruling AIADMK's was adamant in denying space in Anna memorial, Stalin was very upset.”

When he met the Chief Minister to ask for space after Kalaignar breathed his last, the CM said that he would reply in one hour after consulting top officials. “However, there was no response. Later, there was a statement from Chief Secretary that there was no space to bury Kalaignar in Anna memorial and we were speechless as to what to do,” the MP said. “Even I protested the government's decision and told my brother that we will sit on Marina, however, Stalin was silent without showing any anger,” she recounted.

Later, her brother called a battery of lawyers to consult the issue. “He was not angry in the nick of the moment. Finally, justice won. If my brother was angry, thousands of cadre and public would have sat in protest on Marina,” she said.

The ruling AIADMK had no conscience and thalapathy did not want others to feel inconvenient at that juncture, she said.

“So, it is time to say that to lead the state, thalai nimirnthu va (raise your head in pride, Va ),” she concluded.
